“I’m really scared but im ready and i hope this video helps people who feel the same.  I’m Bisexual.”  Shane Dawson shares a very important message with his followers.

YouTube’s Shane Dawson has been posting comical content on his channel since 2008.  Since then, he has released a wide variety of content that balances reality with comedy and is guaranteed to make viewers laugh.  Today he posted one of his more serious videos, revealing a new component of himself and championing for love all at once.  Citing Ingrid Nilsen as an inspiration, Shane decided to reveal that he identifies as bisexual.

In his nearly fifteen minute video Shane traces the struggle of coming to grips with his bisexuality and understanding how to identify himself before explaining how he learned to embrace himself.  After feeling attracted to both genders in his youth, Shane repressed his sexuality in an effort to become invisible, but he realized that he didn’t want to hate himself for being true to his heart.  Shane detailed a meeting with a therapist who showed him that labeling himself as gay or straight was significantly less important than living his life.  The therapist explained to him that “a lot of people are on a sexual spectrum,” and that he should be focused on living his life instead of focusing on exactly where he fell on that spectrum.  After his meeting, Shane Dawson realized that “I am open to love in any way, and I guess that makes me bisexual.”

After unveiling the importance of choosing to love himself and follow his heart, Shane went on to state that his sexuality was one component of his life.  His bisexuality is simply one part of his true self.  He is a comedian, an actor, a writer, a content creator, a brother, a son, and so much more.  You don’t need to define him by any one element of himself, because he is so much more than any one element.  He signed off his video with a message for any and everyone who has ever struggled with their sexuality or expressing themselves honestly.

Love who you want to love.  Life is short.  Nobody’s going to hate you for it.  God isn’t going to hate you for it, because God loves you.  And if you don’t believe in God, even better.  But if you do believe in God, like me, and you’re scared, you don’t want to piss him off and you don’t want to go to hell and all those things.  You just need to remember that God made you who you are for a reason.  I’m this way for a fucking reason.  I can love multiple people for a reason.  And I think that’s where I am today, because I’m just so full of love.”

I’m Bisexual: Shane Dawson

Huge congratulations are in order for Shane Dawson for having the courage to share such a personal part of his life with the world.  It takes so much bravery to love who and how you want to love, and I have nothing but the utmost of respect for him after sharing such an intimate part of himself.  Shane’s video also sheds light upon the struggle of identifying as bisexual.  Far too often it seems as though bisexuality is met with confusion by the general public, but they deserve the same respect that everyone else deserves.  Hopefully Shane’s video will enlighten more people about the reality of falling somewhere in the middle of the spectrum.  We all deserve to love how we want to love, and we should all celebrate someone’s bravery to choose love!

Since posting his video Shane Dawson has received support from all of his friends and fans.  Fellow YouTubers such as Joey Graceffa (the other half of the popular #Shoey ship) expressed their love and support for Shane and shared his video across social media.  Fans have been equally quick to share their respect for his bravery.
